This labor day weekend we had our girls' birthday party. In May I bought a magazine that had really fun birthday cakes. Anna saw a picture of a flip-flop cake and was convinced she wanted to have one for her birthday. So our "Backyard Beach Bash" began to take shape.
Cecilia turned two on August 29th. She is our little dancing queen, obsessed with musicals "Hairspray," "High School Musical 1 & 2" and most recently an ABBA fan with "Mama Mia" she stands on the red rug in front of the radio and says "watch mom" or "watch dad" and just dances. We love watching her.
Anna will turn five on September 7th and can't wait to start preschool with Miss Heather for the second year. She is such a sweetheart and has a great imagination. She continually talks about her friends Fawna Hanker, who is a little micheveous and Tinka, who is a second grade teacher both of whom exist only in her imagination. I love listening to Anna say her prayers at night and just recently she added another group of people to her list of "Mom, Dad, CC, Grandmas, Grandpas, Aunts, Uncles" she has added "Unts" who she has explained are her "old grandmas and grandpas" very creative if you ask me.
We had one combined birthday party on August 30th and it was so much fun--fabulous in Anna's opinion. The invitations were beach balls deflated with a note that said "You are invited to a Backyard Beach Bash, but to find out for whom, when, and where you'll have to take this beachball and blow it up with air!" Then the information for the party had been written on the beachball. I was a little nervous about the weather, but it was just warm enough and the kids had fun playing in the little pool and sprinkler. We also had a few planned games and a pinata and the flip-flop cake was a hit. It was really great. Thank you to everyone who came and helped make it special for our girls.
