Grandma "Bean" turns the big 90!

On June 2, 2011 my Grandma Lavene, better known as "Grandma Bean" turned 90.  I organized a family birthday party for her, her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids and it was so fun to spend a day with everyone.  She didn't understand what we were all doing there, and although we all knew by the time we drove her home she would have forgotten where she had just been, we would remember getting together to celebrate her and her life forever.

I set up a display by decade including pictures, books, food and events that my grandma has lived through in her 90 years.  It was so interesting realizing the events her life has included-what a 90 years.

Aunt Vicki is always good for a hug and a laugh-my kids love her!

Here is Scott trying to rope-he quickly learned that it takes some coordination and skill he just wasn't built for and we all got a good laugh.

My Family with Grandma.

We were at a park with a playground, but my family preferred climbing the trees.

I have never known a baby who doesn't love Grandma "Bean"

Anna, Grandma and Sara, getting ready to cut the cake.

Lilly showed Scott up in the roping department-Yeehaw!

Here's Grandma hiding from the camera-she was sick of having her picture taken and had told us to, "stay the hell away from the man with the yellow shirt,"(my cousin Jody's husband, Eldon, who was our photographer for the day).

Grandpa Cecil in his Navy uniform. He died when I was three.

This is how I think of my Grandma. She was my bus driver throughout elementary and so many of my memories include her with this bus.

Here they are this last year.

At one point during the party my grandma opened a card that said something about being 90 years old at which point she exclaimed, "Am I 90?  Well I might as well give up then."  I'm sure glad you've been around for 90 years, thanks for everything.  Happy Birthday Grandma!
