Ten great years!

As Scott and I got ready to celebrate our 10 year anniversary we decided it was time for me to travel with him to New York.  He works in the New York office often, but I had never been to the "Big Apple" and was so excited to spend a few days having Scott to myself.

After being delayed for six hours in Chicago waiting for a flight that due to a computer glitch no longer existed we were very happy to finally land in New York.  We had dinner reservations for "Mark Forgione Restaurant" that we had to move to 10:30 at night to make, but it was so worth it.  Mark is the newest Iron Chef and a friend of his works in the New York office and offered to make us the reservations. We, being the crazy food network fans we are, were so excited.  Mark was at the restaurant and came over and introduced himself to us and the food-well if you have never been there is nothing to compare it to it was the best fish I have ever eaten.  It was, after a long day, a great way to start out our trip in New York.
Scott may work in New York a lot, but has never done the tourist things, so he and I got to enjoy them together for the first time.

I love the history and architecture of the old churches and cemeteries-Men who signed the Declaration of Independence were buried here.

There are no pictures or television scenes that could have prepared me for seeing the actual postings of people who were looking for their loved ones 10 years ago on September 11, 2001.  Scott and I walked through the churches where much of the aid and help were stationed. Many things have lain in memorial to all those whose lives were taken and given heroically for these 10 years untouched.

Of course food was a major part of our trip.  This is the name of one of the places we went to while visiting.  It was tiny on the inside with only four tables and the kitchen door was open so customers could watch as a chef took a long section of dough and brought it up above his head slamming it on the counter over and over and over again until it broke apart into perfect width noodles. Then the man would slice them into the right length and put them into whatever dishes had been ordered-well worth our $7.50 shared meal. It tasted great and if you don't believe us, it was on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" on the Food Network-I'm telling you they were delicious.

We spent a lot of our time walking around different areas of New York.  We watched local baseball games in Central Park- watched basketball games at "The Cage" and just enjoyed each other's company.  Renting bikes and cruising through Central Park was one of my very favorite things we did.

We went to the National Native American Museum  in a beautiful old building and in one of the rooms this was the ceiling which I thought was stunning.

While Scott was at work one day I was lucky enough to spend time with his cousin Ginny and her daughter Xayla.  They took me to a new walkway three stories up in place of an old railway system it was beautiful.

As I mentioned before we watched basketball games at "The Cage"  which is world famous.  There was a basketball tournament going on that NBA players come back to participate in and it was fun watching with the locals and listening to their commentary.

Dessert after eating at Scott's favorite and top-rated pizza place in New York.

Scott was very sure he didn't want to go The Statue of Liberty or to Ellis Island, so while he was at work one day I set off by myself.  I love the history of the country and sat on a bench at Ellis Island and cried while listening to the stories of families who began their lives here so many years ago.  I was so happy I had went and after I told Scott about my time without him, he sorely regretted being so adamant on not scheduling the tour when he could have come with me.

We also went to the Broadway Play "Billy Elliott" and ate at many more delicious places.  I can't imagine a better way to have spent our anniversary than holding hands walking the streets of New York together.  Here's to another happy 70!
